Obesity and Cancer Risk

Obesity and cancer risk

Share:

Being overweight causes many issues to our health, but many of us are unaware that it also increases our risk for cancer.

Studies have shown that higher levels of body fat have been associated with increased risk of esophageal cancer, liver cancer, gastric cardia (upper part of stomach) cancer, endometrial cancer, kidney cancer, pancreatic cancer, and more!

Obesity and risk of cancer

Here are some eye-opening stats:

Esophageal cancer: if you are overweight or obese, you are 2X more likely to develop a type of esophageal cancer known as esophageal adenocarcinoma.

Endometrial cancer: women that are overweight or obese are 2-4X more likely to develop cancer of the lining of the uterus.

Liver cancer: if you are overweight or obese, you are up to 2X more likely to develop liver cancer.

Kidney cancer: if you are overweight or obese, you are up to 2X more likely to develop renal cell cancer.

You can view full data here.

There are so many health benefits to losing excess fat and maintaining a healthy weight, but decreasing your risk to cancer I think has to be the greatest reason for you to do so!
